The old church of San José.-interesiglesia

Classified as a monument of architectural interest, it is presently being rehabilitated. Its construction dates from 1550. The old church of San José holds its peculiar belfry aloft in testimony to architectural styles of a bygone age. Little is left of its original construction; the first hermitage, dating from 1637, was widened in later centuries and nowadays is a listed building (Bien de Interés Cultural). Meanwhile, since 1973, a new place of worship, very close to the previous one, harbours a group of images of considerable beauty, which are venerated by the municipality’s believers. The sculpture of San José created in the 17th century shares the stage with the dressed image (de candelero) of the patron of the municipality, the Virgin of the Rosary.
