The municipality faces towards the blue waters of the Atlantic , and is caressed by its gentle, warm breeze. The impressive coastline, made up of numerous protected inlets, makes an ideal place for a stroll to enjoy the seascapes.

The tortuous coast, four kilometres in length, widens from north to south in a series of hills and hollows full of euphorbia bushes, with dragon trees and palm groves growing in the ravine beds near the sea, or on the slopes wherever deep soil is found. The Breña Baja coast is characterised by the expanding resort of Los Cancajos, a significant tourist zone at island level, warehouses and military installations in the El Fuerte quarter, as well as by large expanses of banana plantations, from Punta de los Guinchos to the head of the airport runway.

The Playa de los Cancajos beach has become the main tourist axis on the eastern side of the island of La Palma. Its proximity to the airport and to the capital, Santa Cruz deLa Palma, has made this area into a leading holiday destination, offering visitors a varied range of accommodation and leisure activities. This zone has seen its natural areas altered by the expansion of tourism, but has managed to offset the worst effects of this expansion and maintain its visual appeal. The remodelling of its beaches and of the promenade along the cliffs, plus the quality of its water and the available facilities, have won it the well-earned “Blue Flag for Clean Seas in Europe” award, from the year 2000 to the present.

Its high-grade hotel and non-hotel expansion, the mildness of its climate, constant all year round, the beauty of its large, black sandy beaches, plus its ample commercial and leisure offer have enabled the resort of Los Cancajos to maintain its high touristic status, both at insular, as well as at regional level.
